While pulling the remaining oranges from my tree yesterday (and juicing), I enjoyed sipping a glass of OJ yesterday. It was delicious and nutritious; not only vitamin C but good levels of potassium.

Getting enough potassium is important to balance sodium levels in the cells. Excess sodium is everywhere in the food supply, especially in processed or prepared foods. Excess sodium can raise blood pressure, which is never good. But, with the Corona Virus, high blood pressure can be even more deadly. In addition, consuming a lot of salt can interfere with calcium absorption. Calcium is needed for heart and muscle contraction, brain health, blood clotting, connective tissue, and the immune system.

Potassium works great to balance sodium. A glass of OJ daily can really help. Other potassium-rich foods are: Beets, Potato, Brussels Sprouts, Avocado, Leafy Greens, and Lima and Navy Beans.

Stay well,
