Most of us don’t think about our gut, unless there is a problem. Basically, your gut goes from your mouth to your rectum, and it controls two of the most important aspects of our health, and something that is directly under our control. These are 1) optimize the nutrients entering your body, and 2) rid your body of toxins. Nutrition is essential for life, and one of the most powerful tools we have control over. Anything we do three or more times/day has a profound effect on our bodies. Please, think about what you put in your mouth.  With heart disease, obesity, and diabetes reaching epidemic proportions with no end in sight, it’s time for Americans to reevaluate our food intake. There are way too many refined carbohydrates in our food supply, the government food pyramid is not very reliable (they recommend too many carbs in a unatural state. 150 years ago, our sugar intake per person, per year, was 10 lbs. As of 2007, it had risen to 170 lbs. Do you see any connection between carbs/sugars and the rise in the abovementioned diseases. I certainly do.

Remember, poor health as you age is not a natural part of the aging process. In fact, Dr. C. Everett Koop, former US surgeon general, said, “two out of three Americans suffer fatal health problems because of what they put in their mouths. coronary disease, stroke, diabetes, some cancers, and atherosclerosis are caused by the wrong foods and too much of it.”

Only you have control of your health.

Stay well, John R Blilie, M.S.
