I read some recent studies that I think are very interesting, and I’d like to share them with you.

According to physician records, nine out of 10 new cases of diabetes are attributable to lack of exercise, poor diet, smoking, alcohol abuse, and/or excess weight. Gee, diabetes type 2 seems pretty preventable.

Peanuts work as well as olive oil to protect against heart disease, according to Penny Kris-Etherton, PhD, RD, a professor at Penn State. People with mildly elevated cholesterol ( a score of 200-235), who included peanuts and peanut butter in their diets, or peanut oil, achieved an 11% drop in total cholesterol and a 14-15% drop in LDL, or “bad” cholesterol. Those were the same results that were achieved by people using the same amount of olive oil.

I will be gone over the 4th, and return Monday night. Have a great holiday and be safe.

Stay well, John R. Blilie, M.S.
