Another Sunday, another great workout day. It’s getting hot here in the valley, so that means getting up and out to exercise earlier. Don’t for a minute think that I wouldn’t like to stay under the covers and sleep, but that does nothing to help me reach my goal of being as healthy as possible. What gives me such a good feeling and a sense of control over my life is that if I have the discipline to get up and out to work out, I can handle anything that comes along during the day. Give it a try, you’ll enjoy the reward.
Health Tips. I came across a couple of new findings that almost sound to good to be true. The first is resveratrol, a substance found in the skin of red grapes, that in animals has increased their healthy lifespan by 20% on average. This would translate into 10-20 years in humans. It is on the market now. There is a great 60 minutes report on resveratrol-just google it and click on the Dr. Oz line.
Another is glutathione, which is emerging as one of the keys to the wheel of health. Glutathione is a small protein produced naturally in every cell of our body. It is made up of three amino acids-glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. The cysteine amino acid contains a sulfur group responsible for the chemical properties of the whole molecule. There are three major roles of glutathione in the body: antioxidant, immune system booster, and liver detoxifier. The problem is that you can’t take glutathione to feed it to your cells-it has to be manufactured within your cells. What you can do is give glutathione the building blocks that it needs, and that is cysteine. Check out Immunocal’s website for more info.
Stay well, John R. Blilie, M.S.
