Wow, do I feel like a sheep that was shorn last night. My son Alex, had a fever of 103.7 yesterday afternoon, up from 103.5 just a few minutes before. Of course, he gets sick on a Friday night, so we waited for Saturday to see how he was. His pediatrician was open til noon, but his fever wasn’t bad-it didn’t go up until after 4:00. Of course, by then, all of the urgent care facilities were closed. The only option, the dreaded ER. We took him to the ER because of the swine flu (H1N1) virus, debating long and hard about that option. In the end, since we have only one of him, we took him in and spent a lovely 3.75 hours in there. He ended up testing positive for a virus, not the swine flu, not strepp, but a virus. Happy to say that he is back to normal today. Unfortunately, it cost me time and 150 bucks to find out what I already knew. I think I bought into all of the hype about swine flu. Jeezz…………………….
On a more positive note, it seems that they are finding about more and more benefits from vitamin D. I’ve written about several, but these are new to me. Studies involving women in their mid-80’s who took 800 IU’s of vitamin D daily for three months showed that doing so improved their leg strength, and they experienced fewer falls. Other studies show that D helps with cognitive function in older adults. That = better thinking skills…………
Stay well, John r Blilie, M.S.
