I’ve had a dandy cold this week, but I’m now on the back end of it. One of my basic exercise beliefs is that unless you have a fever, the flu, exercise is one of the ways to get well sooner.
Exercise raises your body temperature, which I believe, makes such a noxious internal milieu, that whatever virus you have will want to leave your body as quickly as possible. I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t feel much like getting out of bed and exercising, but my cold only lasted 4 days, where others seem to need a week or more to start feeling better.
I apologize for not getting more blogs and health tips to you this week, but I’ve had some trouble getting my blog to appear on my home page-I’m hoping this one does.
Health tip. With the rampant increase in diabetes, blood sugar is of utmost importance to manage. There are two inexpensive, easily available foods that do a great job of controlling blood sugar-cinnamon and apple-cider vinegar. The vinegar interferes with carbohydrate absorption, thereby slowly the release of glucose into the blood and lowering insulin release. Remember, insulin loves to store fat-when insulin levels are high, fat storage increases, and we all want to burn fat, not store it. So as an added benefit, you will lose weight. Take two tablespoons of apple-cider vinegar before two daily meals. You can take it straight or in a glass of water. A study done in 2007 showed this amount not only controlled blood sugar levels, it also prompted 2-4 lbs. of weight loss after 4 weeks in the vinegar group compared to the control group.
Cinnamon needs to be taken in capsule form-500 mg/day.
Stay well, John R. Blilie, M.S.
