I can’t stress the importance of makingyour exercise routine a part of your daily activity, and when you don’t feel like it, you probably really need to do it. On my daily route, I see people who are regular exercisers, and they are able to get through the activities of daily life without so much as an afterthought. I also see people so deconditioned and frail, that just walking from one room to another is exhausting. Please don’t wait until you get to that point, it’s all the harder to come back. You take control of your life, not the other way around. I feel as if my job gives me a glimpse of the future (in 20 -30 years for myself) and I want to make my future as bright and healthy as possible by being as active as I can. Remember, when exercising, mix in some short, intense, burst-activity to burn more fat and stress your physiological systems-they really like it and it breaks any monotony during your routine.
Health Tips. 1). If you need a CT scan or angiogram, take N-acetylcysteine the day before. It protects against kidney damage caused by iodine contrast agents. 2). Daily cranberry extract supplements are nearly as effective as prophylactic use of antibiotics in preventing recurrent urinary tract infections. I found both of these nuggets in Dr. Whitaker’s Health & Healing newsletter, May, 2009.
Stay well, John R. Blilie, M.S.
